Winchester

This consignment sale is a great example of a rifle that is so long-lasting and so popular that it's functional far enough into the future that it can be retro-fitted to take advantage of modern technology.  Like all of the Winchester Model 94 rifles, it's a fantastic design and great caliber and ready for you to take into the field.

This model has a 20 inch round barrel and is stamped for 30WCF which is, of course, the 30-30 Win caliber.  The serial number of 1152603 indicates likely production in 1941.  Several sources may give you other (earlier) dates but the features of this particular rifle make us believe that 1941 is the correct date.

The current owner has mounted the Peason long rail system on the rifle in order to add a top rail and add modern, high quality optics to the rifle.  The Pearson system is a great add because it enables adding a top rail without having to drill the receiver.  The rear sight is removed during installation but we have the original rear sight which will be included in the purchase.  The optic of choice for this owner is the Holosun 510C with a green reticle.  We agree that this is a fantastic choice and we love that particular optic.  The 510C is also included with the purchase.  However, if you're a traditionalist or just like the original look of the Model 94, simply remove the Pearson rail and re-install the rear sight.  You can truly have it whichever way is more appealing to you.

Rifling in the barrel is very good and the barrel is very bright.  The bore is clean and good.  The lever action is smooth and the trigger is light and smooth as well.  The hammer features a 1/4 cock position for safety.  There is some finish loss on the barrel, particularly at the muzzle.  The finish on the receiver has mostly been lost to age but the metal is smooth, shiny and shows no pitting or rust.

The wood shows normal signs of handling and use but is in Good condition and without any major defects.  The buttplate is in good condition as well.

Overall, we really like this particular Model 94.  Use it as shown with the upgraded modern features or return it to its original configuration.  No matter which way you go about it, this is a beautiful, vintage rifle with a lot of life left in it and with the ability to go with you on a lot of successful hunts.  You'll probably pass this same rifle on to the next generation and it will still be out there performing better than a lot of its modern, younger competitors.
