Winchester

This very nice Winchester Model 12 Trap came to us as a consignment sale and it's a fantastic example of a vintage shotgun.  Serial number on this shotgun is 1965027.  The serial numbers on the receiver and barrel match.  Based upon the source that's used, the shotgun was manufactured either in 1963 or 1968.  Based on the absence of a "Y" prefix, we believe that this is likely a pre-1964 receiver that was used to fulfill a custom order before the passage of the 1968 Gun Control Act.  The "Y" prefix that we mentioned earlier probably would have been added to the serial number if that was not the case.

This 12 gauge, pump action shotgun is chambered for 2-3/4 inch shells.  It has a 30 inch vent rib barrel and is marked as a Full choke.  The bore is clean and the barrel is bright.

The shotgun has a checkered pistol grip stock and the wooden forearm is checkered as well.  The pistol grip has a black cap.  A solid buttpad is at the end of the stock and the buttpad is not marked or labeled.  The wood is in Excellent condition and shows just signs of honest use.

The receiver retains almost all of its finish.  There is an area on the front, left side of the receiver that is scratched and that's shown in one of the photos.  There is some finish loss on the barrel with the majority of this being spots on the left side of the barrel.  We've attempted to show that area in the photos as well.  The action is smooth but the shotgun could stand to be lubricated.

Overall, we'd rate this shotgun as Very Good and think that it would make a fine addition to your collection.
