Winchester

This consignment rifle came into the shop a few days ago and everyone stopped to take a look at it.  It's an extremely nice, vintage .30-30 lever action and a real head-turner.

This Model 94 carbine is chambered in .30-30 Win and, based on the serial number, we believe to have been manufactured in 1955.  Serial number is 2118445.  Side gate loading feeds a tube magazine.  It has a blued finish and a walnut stock.

The interior of the 20 inch round barrel is very bright and the rifling is strong.  The bore is good.  The front sight is a hooded ramp and the rear sight is an adjustable buckhorn.  The hammer features a half-cock position.  The trigger has a smooth break with no take up and a great feel to it.

The wood on the stock and forearm is in excellent condition.  We find no cracks or major flaws but it does have signs of just honest use as you'd expect from a great rifle like this one.  The buttpad also remains in excellent condition.

The receiver, lever and barrel are a blued finish and also rate an excellent condition.  We're nit-picking a bit in the following description but we want to be accurate in our presentation.  There is one minor scratch on the left side of the barrel, approximately 1.5" from the muzzle.  There is one pin prick sized loss of finish on the underside of the barrel approximately 3" forward of the forearm.  There is one scratch on the left side of the front sight hood.  There is one minor area of finish loss on the right side of the tube magazine at the muzzle end.  Again, signs of normal, honest use but please review all of the photos.

We think that it's been quite some time since this rifle saw use as it was pretty dry.  We applied a small amount of oil on a few select areas and the resulting action was very smooth.

Overall, we'd rate this Winchester in excellent condition.  This is a classic piece, in great condition and very solidly built.  It's a purchase that you won't regret and, whether it will be just for show or you're going to take it on your next hunt, it won't disappoint!
