Wards

This is a consignment sale of a Wards Hercules Model 10 in 410 bore with a 26 inch barrel, fixed choke and a 3 inch chamber.  There were single shot (break open) models and this one would have been produced sometime between 1937 and 1947.  They were a variant of the J Stevens Arms 94A that were produced for Montgomery Wards.

There is a small, bead front sight and a grooved rear sight channel at the top of the receiver.  The shotgun opens freely, has a good lock up and the release lever moves smoothly.

The wood is in good condition but has normal nicks and dents.  We did not find any cracks.  The metal has some pitting and surface oxidation.  The buttpad is broken (see photo).  Most of the finish has been lost to age.

Overall, this is an older shotgun that would make a nice restoration project, offered at a price that reflects the condition of the firearm.  If you're looking for a project to work on, this is an affordable place to start.
