In 1945, Lt. General George S. Patton, Jr. said, “In my opinion, the M-1 Rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised.”  A lot of our Marines and soldiers fighting in World War II no doubt agree with him.  The United States was the first country to field a semi-automatic main battle rifle for its troops and the Garand was instrumental in turning the tide of that global conflict.

The M1 design was officially adopted as the standard U.S. infantry rifle in 1936.  The first production rifle was successfully proofed, function-checked and accurized in July, 1937 and the Army accepted their first run of these rifles in 1938.  During World War II, the Garand was produced by Springfield Armory and also by Winchester Repeating Arms.  During the Korean War, production came from Springfield Armory, Harrington & Richardson and International Harvester.  The rifles continued to be manufactured until 1957 when the M14 replaced the Garand as our main battle rifle.

Despite their age, these rifles are still great shooters and they're both accurate and incredibly fun to take into the field or to the range.  To avoid damage to the gas piston and operating rod, just make sure to use ammunition that is "correct" for the M1.  There are several manufacturers that make ammunition specifically tailored for the M1 Garand and the ammunition is typically readily available.

Our rifle came from Springfield Armory and wears serial number 5843115.  That would put its likely production date as late in 1956.  Not in the last block of Springfield production, but fairly late in the run.  This is an authentic U.S. Government rifle that has been inspected, headspaced and test fired for function. It comes with a safety manual, (1) eight-round en bloc clip and certificate of authenticity.  There are no import marks.

This Expert Grade rifle has a new wood stock with the CMP cartouche stamped on the left side.  The barrel is a new Criterion match grade barrel with a 1:10 twist, manufactured in April, 2023.  The bore is Mint and measures 0+.  The muzzle also measures 0+.  Finish on the entire rifle is incredible.  Please view the photos and we think that you'll agree.

These rifles are an incredible part of the history of our country and this specific rifle is one of the better looking M-1 Garands that you'll find.
