This revolver came to us as a consignment sale.  We handle quite a few consignments and I don't think that we've ever described one as "better than new".  I guess that we'll have to change that now because this particular revolver really is better than new.

Here's some of the basic information before we go into what makes this particular revolver great.  The revolver is a 986 Pro Series manufactured in 2014.  The 5 inch barrel has a full shroud and the cylinder holds 7 rounds of 9mm cartridges with the included moon clips.  Serial number on this beauty is CWF1449.  A black, Hogue rubber grip gives a soft feel in the hand but allows a firm hold.  Metal finish is a satin stainless.  All of that sounds like the normal 986 Pro Series, right?

Here's what makes this one different.  The owner has had the revolver professionally dehorned and the difference that makes on this one is incredibly noticeable.  The work was extremely high quality and the gun is just . . . smooth.  After seeing and feeling this one, we are now big fans of dehorning.  That was probably a $250 investment on the part of the owner but well worth it.

Next, the owner also installed a Rough Country adjustable rear sight.  He also replaced the factory front sight with a brass bead sight.  The combination of those sights together is also noticeable and the sight picture is just fantastic with them mounted.  However, if you're a traditionalist, the original sights are included in the case.

The Hogue grips are in Like New condition and show no wear.  The metal finish is also Like New.  In fact, there's not even a visible cylinder ring.  The action on this one is as smooth of an action as we've felt on any Smith revolver.  Really, really nice.  The barrel is mirror-like in terms of brightness and the rifling is deep and strong.

A new, right out of the box 986 Pro Series will set you back around $1330 today.  That's with everything in a normal, factory configuration.  We think that this particular revolver is better than new, smoother than new and a much better option than that standard new 986.  On top of that, the owner has this one priced to sell and well below what you'd pay for that standard factory offering.  Take a good look at this one.  We think that you'll like it and, like us, will be a pretty big raving fan!

Purchase includes the revolver, original hard case, approximately 20 moon clips, the mounted front and rear sights as shown, the original front and rear sights from Smith & Wesson and the manual.

This is a consignment sale and, like all of our consignments, we have not test-fired this revolver.  We have, however, performed all function checks and find no issues to report.  As with all pre-owned firearm purchases, please review the photos carefully so that you are fully comfortable with the condition of the revolver.
