This 1985 Smith & Wesson 686 is a commemorative edition to recognize the 50th anniversary of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC). It is stamped as 165 of 400 and wears serial number AJD1202.
The revolver comes to us from an estate and was presented to the original owner who worked undercover for TABC. We’re sure that he would have had some interesting stories to tell! The revolver, as best as we can determine, is very likely unfired and in its original condition from the time of manufacture.
A commemorative coin with belt clip on the reverse is in the case and is also marked as 165 of 400. A keychain commemorating the 50th anniversary of the TABC is also included. The text of the XXI amendment (repealing prohibition) is on the reverse side. The wooden presentation case is lined with blue felt and has indentions for the coin and revolver. The TABC seal is on top of the lid.
The revolver itself has smooth, walnut grips with embedded Smith & Wesson medallion. It’s an “L” frame, six shot model with a 4 inch heavy straight barrel and full length extractor shroud. The rear sight is adjustable and the front sight is a Smith & Wesson red ramp. The hammer is a .375” wide semi-target hammer.
The left side of the frame is stamped 165 of 400 and also has the Smith & Wesson logo beneath the cylinder release. The right side of the barrel is marked: TEXAS ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE COMMISSION, 50 TH ANNIVERSARY 1935-1985-. The TABC seal is engraved on the right side of the frame, just above and forward of the grip.
The revolver is in Like New condition and is a unique commemorative, very limited edition model.
Purchase includes the revolver, wooden presentation case, TABC coin with matching serial number, TABC commemorative key chain and owner’s manual.
