Smith & Wesson

This revolver came to us as a part of an estate.  It was the service revolver for a Sergeant on the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Police Department.  He purchased it from the department upon his retirement in 1999.  A copy of the purchase letter is included in the box.

This model has a 4 inch barrel, is chambered for .38 Special and is rated for +P ammunition.  It wears serial number BSB5989 and is a 64-5 model.  The Model 64 is built on the rugged K-frame and is a great, heavy duty firearm.

The Model 64 has a rear sight channel leading to a ramp front sight.  It's a nice snag-free design and puts your point of aim low over the bore axis.  The finish is stainless, action is both Double Action / Single Action and the revolver has black finger groove grips.

The stainless finish is in Very Good condition.  The grips show only light wear, as you'd expect from a service revolver.  Wear on the grips is lighter than we would have expected to see.  The bore is clean, the barrel is bright and the rifling is strong.  The single action trigger pull is very light and easy.  Double action pull has a slightly lighter feel that typical of most revolvers.

Overall, this revolver is in Very Good or better condition.  It's a solid piece with a whole lot of range or carry time left in it.  It also comes from the era when we saw great quality firearms from Smith & Wesson.  If you're after a versatile vintage revolver, take a good look at this one.  Nice revolver, nice history and a nice price.
