We don't see these older Smith & Wesson revolvers very often, but it's sure nice when we do. Smith has done some nice models in their Classic line lately but this revolver is the real, original version . . . and it's a beautiful gun.
There were several versions of the Model 19-3 Combat Magnum that came out of the Smith & Wesson factory on the K frame. This one has a 4 inch barrel, is chambered in .357 Magnum and has a 6 shot cylinder. The finish is nickel and the grips are checkered wood. Rear sight is adjustable and the front ramp sight has a high visibility red insert that makes it quick and easy to acquire your sight picture.
The revolver is a consignment sale so we can't comment extensively on the history of the gun. We don't test fire our consignment guns. Like all used firearm purchases, we'd ask that you review the pictures carefully so that you are fully comfortable with the condition as described.
The checkered wood grips are the square butt version and they are absolutely beautiful. A gold Smith & Wesson medallion sits just above the checkering on both sides. The checkering is crisp and well-defined. Grips show no wear and have no scuffs or scratches. We'd describe them as pristine except for one very small chip that is 1/8" x 1/8" just below the back strap.
The barrel is very bright. The trigger is very light, very smooth and just feels fantastic.
The only flaws that we find on this revolver are a few areas of finish loss. We'll list them here so that we can be complete in our description: A small area just above the cylinder release, the left side of the frame between the ejector rod and the cylinder, the top of the barrel on the right hand side just below the front sight, the right side of the frame just forward of the cylinder and extending to the first part of the right-hand side of the barrel.
In summary, we think that this is a great example of the beautiful 19-3 revolver with the few cosmetic issues noted above. The gun comes with a padded, leather, zippered case. This not commonly seen revolver from the past would be a great addition to your collection and a real eye-catcher!
