We come up with quite a few law enforcement trade-in pistols but we recently came across a batch of Sig Sauer P220 models that are really impressive. This P220 is chambered in 45ACP and has a capacity of 8+1. We've field stripped the pistol but have not fired it. Function check is correct, magazine and recoil springs are strong. See below regarding the lifetime guarantee. Don't chance it on other used pistols that aren't backed by this excellent added protection.
This particular pistol was manufactured in 2007 and spent most of its life with the Montclair Police Department in Montclair, CA. Serial number is G 380 831.
The barrel is 4.4 inches in length. An accessory rail is underneath the barrel for mounting of a light or laser. The pistol is a Double Action Kellerman and, while we have limited experience with that action, it has a very nice feel to it and we’re becoming fans.
3 dot night sights are installed and are dim but functional. We’d estimate them to be less than 50% in terms of original brightness. That would seem to match with the age of the pistol.
Most of our Law Enforcement trade-ins come to us in pretty good condition and this one is no exception. The bore is clean, the barrel is very bright and the rifling is crisp and strong. The slide does have some slight holster wear but it’s much less than we would have expected. You can see that in the photos provided. Based on the condition of the pistol and our experience in seeing these LE trade-ins, this one was likely issued at some point but probably didn’t see a lot of time on patrol. It doesn’t appear to have seen a high round count and the amount of holster wear seems to indicate that it was not carried on a daily basis. The frame is in Excellent condition and the grips would grade as Excellent also.
Overall, this pistol has only minor cosmetic blemishes and looks to be in Excellent overall condition. Mechanical concerns should be no issue at all with the lifetime guarantee that comes with the pistol. A new Sig P220 will set you back right at $1000. If you can get one that looks this good, has a lifetime guarantee and saves you almost half of the purchase price of new . . . why not take a good look?!
