We come up with quite a few law enforcement trade-in pistols but we recently came across a batch of Sig Sauer P220 models that are really impressive. This P220 is chambered in 45ACP and has a capacity of 8+1. We've field stripped the pistol but have not fired it. Function check is correct, magazine and recoil springs are strong. See below regarding the lifetime guarantee. Don't chance it on other used pistols that aren't backed by this excellent added protection.
This particular pistol was German manufactured in 2007 and spent most of its life with the Montclair Police Department in Montclair, CA. Serial number is G 380 830.
The barrel is 4.4 inches in length. An accessory rail is underneath the barrel for mounting of a light or other tactical accessory. The action is a Double Action Kellerman and has a very nice feel to it.
3 dot night sights are installed and are dim but functional. We’d estimate them to be less than 50% in terms of original brightness. That would seem to match with the age of the pistol. In daytime, they function as standard 3 dot sights.
Montclair PD appears to have added Crimson Trace laser grips to the pistol after they received it. These are a really nice value add to an already great pistol. Price these on Amazon and you’ll see that they sell for a little over $300 today, just by themselves. The laser is functional and bright. These are a rubber overmold construction around a sturdy polymer-grip frame. The grip features dual side activation allowing the laser to instinctively activate when the weapon is held in a normal firing grip. An on/off switch is also recessed in the lower left side of the grip. The switch can be left in the “on” position and the laser only activates when the pistol is gripped. The grips do show some wear, as expected from a pistol carried on patrol. Please see the photos to determine for yourself.
Most of our Law Enforcement trade-ins come to us in pretty good condition and this one is no exception. The bore is clean and bright, the barrel is very bright and the rifling is crisp and strong. The slide does have some slight holster wear on the top and sides but not as much as we’d expect from a duty pistol. You can see that in the photos provided. Based on the condition of the pistol and our experience in seeing these LE trade-ins, this one was likely issued and carried but does not seem to have had a large number of rounds fired through it. The frame is in Very Good condition and we’d grade the slide as Very Good also.
Overall, this pistol has only minor cosmetic blemishes and looks to be in Very Good overall condition. Mechanical concerns should be no issue at all with the lifetime guarantee that comes with the pistol. The Sig P220 is a great pistol but a new one is not inexpensive. That’s without the addition of a set of laser grips. Compare this price to new, add in the value of the laser grips and we think that you’ll find a great value and a lot of useful life in this pistol.
