This consignment rifle is a Savage Model 99B Takedown model. Based on our research, it was likely manufactured in 1929, but you wouldn't guess it by looking at it. It's in incredible condition!
Savage made these rifles in three different calibers and ours is chambered in the versatile 300 Savage. The caliber generates relatively mild recoil and is a great choice for moderate to medium range engagements. A 130 grain round can be expected to move downrange around 2900 feet per second.
The barrel is 24 inches in length, has a front ramp sight and a rear leaf. The bore is clean, the barrel is bright and the rifling appears to be strong.
The wood is a checkered pistol grip buttstock and a checkered forearm. There is a black cap on the pistol grip. The recoil pad is a rubber Pachmayr pad. The wood is in Very Good condition and looks beautiful, despite the age of the rifle.
The metal finish is also in Very Good condition with no rust or pitting. There is one small scratch on the right side of the barrel and this is evident in the photos. More of the finish on the lever itself has been lost to age but a very nice patina has replaced it. Overall, the finish is exceptional relative to the age of the rifle and most finish remains intact..
The action of the lever and the rotary magazine is smooth. The trigger is light, crisp and very nice.
This is a beautiful vintage rifle and we don't often see the takedown version of the Model 99. If you're a fan of this beautiful style, this rifle is definitely worth a good, long look.
Purchase includes the rifle and one cloth protective "sock". No other accessories are included.
This is a consignment sale and, like all of our consignments, we have not test fired this rifle. We have performed our function checks and find no issues to report. As with all pre-owned firearm purchases, please review the photos carefully so that you are fully comfortable with the condition of the rifle.
