Savage

One of the "gill" guns, this Savage 6D Deluxe came to us along with several other firearms from an estate.  The 6D Deluxe is also a takedown model.  Savage manufactured this particular version from 1938 through 1968.  The plain stock indicates likely post-war production.  However since the rifle does not have a serial number (nor was one required at that time), we can't specifically date this one.

The barrel is 24 inches and rounds are supplied via a tubular magazine.  The rear sight is an adjustable leaf and the front sight is fixed.  The rifle will fire 22 Short, 22 Long and 22 Long Rifle.  However, for use as a semi-automatic, 22LR is needed.  The bolt handle has the unusual feature of being pushed in toward the receiver to fire as a single shot or pulled outward (away from the receiver) to function in semi-automatic mode.

The metal finish is Excellent with the exception of some scratches on the underside of the trigger guard.  The wood is Very Good or better with just some finish loss on the left side of the stock.  The buttpad is in Excellent condition.

If you're a fan of vintage, early model .22 rifles, take a good look at this one.  We don't think that you'll find a 6D Deluxe in any better condition than ours.
