This fantastic JP Sauer & Sohn came to us as a consignment sale and is a great example of a well-maintained, vintage shotgun. Ours is a 20 Gauge, Side by Side, with 26 inch barrels and a 2 ¾ chamber. It is serial number 284997. The serials numbers on the receiver, barrel and forend all match. The barrels are choked Modified and Improved Cylinder. A single brass bead sits at the end of the barrels. This model has double triggers and extractors.
A manual safety is mounted on the tang but we found that the safety does not hold the “safe” position. This is likely cured by a relatively simple adjustment but we did not do any mechanical work on the shotgun.
The wood features a checkered forend, a cheekpiece checkered pistol grip stock and black Sauer buttpad. The receiver features an engraved game scense.
The wood is in Very Good condition with just signs of normal use but no major defects. The bores are clean and the barrels are bright. The lockup is tight. The barrel finish is mostly intact with some minor signs of use. The finish on the receiver has mostly worn away but has developed a very nice patina with no signs of rust. The black plastic Sauer buttpad is in Very Good condition.
Overall, this is a very nice vintage shotgun that maintains a strong value and has a great deal of life left in it. We don’t see these models very often so, if you’re a fan of vintage Sauer guns, this one is definitely worth a look!
Purchase includes the shotgun, padded hard case and leather sling.
This is a consignment sale and, like all of our consignments, we have not test fired this shotgun. We have performed our function checks and any issues are noted above. As with all pre-owned firearm purchases, please review the photos carefully so that you are full comfortable with the condition of the shotgun.
