Imagine that it's 1979 and your local gun shop just got in a shipment of the new Ruger Red Label shotguns . . . the working man's Over/Under from Ruger.  You can't wait to get your hands on this new gun that you've heard so much about.  You take one home, open the box and admire the absolutely beautiful new break-open 20 Gauge.  You put your new purchase on the closet shelf and go to bed for the night.  When you wake up in the morning, something's happened and it's now 2023 . . . but that new Red Label is still on the shelf in the box.  Ok, I know that we're a little over the top on this but that's what we'd like to think happened with this particular consignment shotgun.

This Red Label came in as part of a large consignment package from a long term, very good customer.  It's part of his deceased grandfather's collection and we've seen a bunch of fantastic pieces that have come in new and unfired.  When our customer dropped this one off, he said, "I don't think this one ever even got assembled".  We don't see anything to contradict that statement and you'll notice in our pictures that we didn't assemble it either.  We've kept this one as close as possible to the way that it rolled out of the factory over 40 years ago.  I don't think that you'll find a nicer Red Label 20 Gauge anywhere that you'd like to look.

Serial number on this gorgeous shotgun is 400-07182 and, as we mentioned before, it was manufactured in 1979.  It's a 20 Gauge version with a 3" chamber and 26" vent rib barrels.  At that point in production, Ruger made these without removable chokes.  The top barrel is a full choke and the underneath barrel is a modified choke.  Auto ejectors assist in removal of the fired shells.  A bead front sight rests at the front end of the top barrel.  The receiver and barrels have a blued finish.  The tang mounted safety also selects which barrel will fire first.  The trigger resets as soon as it travels the full distance forward and is then ready to fire the next barrel.

The forearm is checkered wood, as is the pistol grip stock.  Speaking of the wood, take a good look at the photos of the stock.  Beautiful, pristine, awesome grain and pattern.  The stock on this one is just as perfect as the rest of the shotgun.  It's truly fantastic.  The standard red Ruger recoil pad sits at the end of the stock.

We said it above but it probably bears repeating . . . this may be the nicest vintage Ruger Red Label that you'll find.  The guns themselves were known to be ultra reliable mechanically.  This particular one just adds the looks to go with it.  This one is an investment and likely one that's worth it.

Purchase includes shotgun, original box and owner's manual.

This is a consignment sale and, like all of our consignments, we have not test fired this shotgun.  As with all pre-owned firearm purchases, please review the photos carefully so that you are fully comfortable with the condition of the shotgun.

Determined at checkout.
