Remington

This consignment sale is for a beautiful, vintage Remington Sportsman 48.  Ours is a 20 Gauge model with a chamber for 2-3/4" shells.  The barrel stamp is LA and we believe that would put this model as coming out of the factory in 1954.  Serial number of 3838398 would also be consistent with that time period.

The 28 inch barrel has a fixed Full choke and a bead front sight.  The interior of the barrel is bright, the bore is clean and the action is smooth.  It is equipped with a push button safety.  The metal finish is in Very Good condition.  The is some slight wearing of the finish mid-way between the forearm and the muzzle on the top of the barrel.  No scratches and nothing through the finish in the area, just something that we noticed and felt we should mention.  There are some scratches on the underneath side of the trigger guard.  The receiver shows just normal handling and signs of normal use.

The wood is in Excellent condition and shows only the most minor signs of use.  These models were interesting because the forearm and pistol grip give the appearance of checkering but the design is simply printed on the wood and not actual checkering.  The pistol grip features a black cap.  The Remington buttplate is in Excellent condition as well.

Overall, we'd rate this shotgun as being in Excellent condition.  If what you're after is a vintage 20 Gauge semi-automatic shotgun that's in fantastic condition, this may be the one for you!
