A John Browning designed gun is just . . . timeless.  So many iconic designs that are still popular today with many of his designs still being produced.  This Remington Woodmaster Model 81 is one of Browning's designs that still has a lot of life left in it.

This is a consignment item and we have not fired the weapon.  Everything appears to be in good working order, although it needs a good cleaning.  That's easily accomplished due to the take down design of the gun.

Based on the Remington date coding system, we believe this Model 81 was manufactured in November, 1949.  The forend is in good condition.  There is minor wear on the wood but nothing that is through the finish.  The buttstock is heavily scratched on the left side of the stock.  Some cosmetic work is probably in order there.

A few decades in the past, owners sometimes etched their driver's license number on their guns to help identify them in case of theft.  This rifle does have that number dimly visible on the metal underneath the gun just behind the trigger guard.

The metal retains most of its original finish and is in very good condition.  There are some minor scratches but we found no rust.  The 22 inch barrel is bright and shiny and has good rifling.  The recoil pad is likely not original to the gun but is also in very good condition.

Overall, this is a very nice example of a Woodmaster Model 81 that has a lot of years left in it.  Some clean up and cosmetic work does need done as noted above but it's absolutely worth a look and would make a great addition to your collection.
