Remington

This consignment rifle takes you back to the simple time of affordable, inexpensive but effective rimfire rifles.  A lot of us probably either learned to shoot on one of these vintage workhorses or taught our children to shoot with them.

Our specific rifle is a Remington Model 514.  It will handle 22 Short, 22 Long or 22 Long Rifle.  Remington produced these from 1948 - 1970.  Ours has no serial number so it would have been manufactured prior to 1968 and the LB date code on the barrel would indicate that it rolled out of the factory in 1955.

The 24 inch barrel holds an adjustable rear sight and a fixed front sight.  The rear sight may have been replaced at some point during this rifle's life as the finish is mostly intact on it.  These single shot rifles used a bolt action with a manual safety mounted in the rear of the bolt.

The bore of the rifle is clean and both the barrel and rifling look Good.  The muzzle crown has no nicks.  The bolt cycles properly and the trigger has a slight take up and a firm break.  A lot of these models had significant creep in the trigger.  Ours does not.  Much of the metal finish has been lost to age, of course, but the metal is in Good condition and we do not see active rust.  The trigger guard has the most significant finish loss and slight surface oxidation.

The one piece walnut stock has good finish and the normal signs of use that you'd expect from this type of rifle.  We find no cracks or splits and the wood is in Good condition overall.  The Remington buttpad is still in place and is in Good condition.

Overall, this is a nice, vintage rimfire rifle at an affordable price.  It will take you back to that simpler time.  Maybe your grandfather had one of these, or your dad did.  We think this one will bring back some good memories and maybe it will be used to teach one more generation how to shoot.  That's how it should be.
