Norinco

If you're not familiar with the Norinco Type 84S, you're not alone.  This rarely seen rifle was only imported into the U.S. for just one single, controversial year.  The 84S came in 4 different variations with the 84S-1 being the underfolding stock version.  In the summer of 1989, the ATF banned importation of 43 different firearms by name and that included the Chinese AKs.  A subsequent ban in 1994 meant that we weren't going to see the Chinese Type 84 again.  That short life span, along with the Norinco reputation on AK-style rifles meant that these Type 84 models were going to be hard to find and in high demand when they surfaced.  Here you have one available for your collection.

These rifles are chambered for 5.56 NATO and feature a 16.34" barrel with a bird cage style flash hider.  The 84S-1 model has the metal, underfolding stock, a very attractive feature.  Serial number on this rifle is 305763.  We did not disassemble the rifle to check for matching parts but the receiver and top cover are a match.  The rifles came from state factory 66 and that marking is on the left side of the receiver, along with the serial number.  The import stamp of CSI  Dal, TX is also on the receiver in the same area.  The rear sight is a 1000 meter adjustable and the front sight is hooded.  A cleaning rod is underneath the barrel as is the bayonet lug.  A canvas sling is also attached.

The underfolding stock pivots smoothly and operates as intended.  The wood forearm and pistol grip are in Good condition.  The bolt cycles smoothly and the trigger is a nice, light AK trigger.  There are areas of oxidation and finish loss on the rifle and these are shown as best as we can in the photos.  The most noticable areas are at the pivot point of the stock, the right side of the receiver, the flash hider and the gas tube.  The rifle is priced accordingly due to the finish issues mentioned.

As we mentioned earlier, these rifles only came into the U.S. for one year, making them incredibly hard to find . . . especially with the underfolding stock.  If you're after that hard to find, pre-ban AK style of rifle, this one is worth a look!
