Marlin

Beautiful.  Vintage.  Hard to find.  Gorgeous.  All of those are terms that could be applied to this fantastic rifle.  The rifle comes to us as part of a large consignment of firearms that we've been handling for a customer and this rifle, like the entire collection, does not disappoint.

The Marlin 444S model rifle fires the 444 Marlin cartridge, a round with a significant amount of stopping power.  The 22" micro-grooved barrel features the highly desired JM stamp on the left side of the barrel, just forward of the receiver.  Marlin produced this model from 1972 through 1983 and the Serial Number of 24036970 would indicate likely manufacture of this one in 1976.

Magazine capacity is indicated at 5+1 and the rounds are loaded via the side gate on the receiver.  The receiver is already tapped for scope mounting if desired.  A folding, adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight aligns with the hooded front sight.  The wood stock is black walnut with a pistol grip and has a fluted comb buttstock in front of the rubber buttpad.  Sling swivels are mounted on the underside of the stock.  The hammer features a half-cock position and this rifle was produced pre-manual safety.  The beautiful gold trigger features a firm, clean break with no take up that will keep you on target as you send your round downrange.

The wood forearm is near mint.  The buttstock does have a few storage marks but we believe would still grade as excellent.  The pistol grip cap has some scuff marks from storage.  The rubber buttpad is excellent.  Receiver and barrel rate as excellent with no scratches.  The barrel is extremely bright, the rifling is crisp and clear and the bore is clean.  Our examination leads us to believe that the rilfe has seen very limited use.

Overall, we'd rate the rifle as Excellent and in a condition much better than many of the similar models that you see on the market.  This rifle would be a very nice addition to a collection and won't disappoint.
