Magnum Research

From time to time we get to take a good look at some really special firearms that just aren't seen very often.  When this consignment came into the shop, we weren't familiar with the model.  Magnum Research, along with their other Eagle models, made this Lone Eagle for a relatively brief period of time.  You've heard the phrase, "Hand cannon", right?  Well, here you have an actual hand cannon.

This Lone Eagle is chambered for 223 Rem.  These were single shot pistols with a rotating cannon-type breech where you load your round.  Turning the breech to the right opens the chamber.  Turning just further to the right (until you hear a click) activates the ejector.  Rotating to the left locks the round in place.  The weapon is then cocked by a lever located on the left side of the frame.  There is also a push button manual safety.  Serial number on this one is MR8013.

The chrome version such as this one is the more rare and (we think) more desirable option.  Based on what we see from this specific pistol, manufacture date would be between 1997 and 2001.  The 14" quick change chrome barrel appears to be threaded and has a chrome thread protector in place.  We have not attempted to remove the protector to verify.

The barrel interior is very bright, the rifling is crisp and the bore is like new.  We find no flaws in the metal portion of the pistol and would rate the metal as Excellent.

The grip is a black synthetic Valox ambi grip.  The grip shows signs of handling but no defects and we'd rate the grip as Very Good.

The attached optic is a Bushnell Holo-Sight.  We're not certain on the generation but we believe it to be a Gen 2.  We believe that EOTech acquired the patent for this model and, in fact, when we looked through it, it had that EOTech feel and look to it.  This is a 1x magnification holographic sight.  The right side of the optic has on/off controls and the battery button.  The left side contains the brightness controls and elevation adjustment control.  Windage adjustment is located on the rear of the sight.

The optic functions correctly and the reticle appearance (red) is very good.  The recticle is (by our estimation) a 2 MOA dot with an approximate 32 MOA circle surrounding it.

If you're looking for a hunting handgun or want to engage in long range target shooting with a pistol, this one is already set up and ready to go.  Very accurate, with a good feel in your hand and firing the relatively mild recoiling 223 round, this pistol is a fantastic choice.  You won't find very many of these so take a good look before you let this one pass you by.
