This J Stevens Arms rilfe was branded as a Springfield Model 15. While marked as a J Stevens, most of these were manufactured by Savage. This model was also used extensively by the Boy Scouts of America.
The rifle is chambered for .22 Short, Long or Long Rifle. It has a 22 inch barrel and is a single shot model. The round is chambered by the operating the bolt handle and the bolt is then pulled to the rear to cock the action.
The bore of the rifle is dark. The interior of the barrel does have some brightness. We were unable to inspect the quality of the rifling but these rifles were typically very accurate shooters.
The rifle has an adjustable rear sight and a fixed front sight. The wood stock is likely birch. The wood is in good condition. The metal exhibits some pitting and surface oxidation.
Trivia: Carlos Hathcock (One Shot, One Kill) originally learned to shoot using a Springfield Model 15.
Overall, this is a Fair condition rifle but a good project for someone looking for a restoration project or a rifle to practice refinishing skills with.
