This is one of the more unusual rifles that we've had come in on consignment.  Now that we've had a chance to learn more about it, it's also one of the more impressive rifles to come in on consignment.

E Arthur Brown Co no longer makes complete firearms but they do continue to make highly sought after, highly accurate barrels.  For a while, they also manufactured complete 97D falling block rifles and BF hunting handguns.  The list of national and world champions that won their titles while shooting these firearms is impressive.  These firearms are tack drivers . . . literally.

The 97D falling block rifle came in two different configurations.  This is the Deluxe 97D.  Serial number on this specific rifle is 05080051.  It's chambered in 6.5 Benchrest Magnum (BRM) and we'll comment more on the caliber in just a moment.  The falling block design is simple and accurate.  Rotating the trigger guard down drops the block from the breech for loading.  Rotating the trigger guard up seats the round for firing.  Thumb the hammer to the rear and you're ready to shoot.

The round is fired from a 24 inch heavy countour blued barrel with an 11 degree target crown which is very important to the accuracy of the rifle.  The barrel is bright, the rifling is strong and the bore is clean.  This rifle has a walnut stock and forearm and the wood is beautiful and in near mint condition.  A Pachmayr recoil pad helps absorb what is already very little recoil from this caliber.  The receiver is French gray and a weaver rail sits on top of it.  A gold, anodized stock transition completes the fantastic appearance of this rifle.  Finish on the barrel, receiver and transition is like new.  Weight of the rifle comes in somehwere around 6 pounds.  The trigger is perhaps the lighest, smoothest trigger that we've felt on a firearm.  It's truly outstanding.

If you're not familiar with 6.5 BRM (and we weren't), it's a very interesting caliber.  Developed to give big game hunting performance in a mild recoil round, it pushes a 140 grain projectile downrange at around 2490 feet per second.  It's a round that gives you long range, accuracy, mild recoil, plenty of stopping power and it's fun to shoot.  This round will take big game, small game and varmits with ease.  Some of you are probably going to look at AmmoSeek.com right now to see if you can find this round.  We did just that and didn't find it.  However, you will find this round ready to go at E Arthur Brown Co or you can also get all of the reloading dies that you need from them and make your own custom loads.

The scope that's mounted on this rifle is a Hawke SR12 6-18 x 44AO.  The Hawke box that we saw lists it as a model HK3226.  It has a 1 inch tube, and adjustable objective lens, the Hawke Specialized Reticle SR12 and has adjustment dials that are 1/4 MOA.  The glass is impressively clear and that magnification really lets you dial in on your target.  Finish on the scope is near mint except for one item.  What appears to have been a cap on the left side of the scope is missing.  We believe that it was likely a blank as the area underneath the missing cap does not contain any adjustment mechanism.

Overall, we put this rifle and scope in Near Mint condition.  These rifles weren't cheap to purchase when they were made but the end product that you got was beautiful, accurate and championship quality.  Purchasing this particular rifle gives you the exact same thing . . . a very accurate, very attractive long range tack driver that's not easy to find but that's fun to shoot and will give you bragging rights over your buddies.

Purchase includes rifle, mounted scope as shown and described and a foam padded hard case.

This is a consignment sale and, like all of our consignments, we have not test-fired the rifle.  We have performed all function checks and find no issues.  As with all used firearm purchases, please review all of the photos carefully so that you are fully comfortable with the condition of the rifle.

Determined at checkout.
