Perhaps no other firearm brings to mind images of the Old West more than the Colt Single Action Army revolvers. In production from 1873 through today, they are one of the most well known and most collected of all handguns. Whether you know them as a Peacemaker or an SAA, they are beautiful, sought-after firearms.
This consignment sale is for a First Generation , late black powder version, SAA chambered in 45 Colt. It is serial number 147677, with the same serial number appearing on the frame, trigger guard and butt of the revolver. The barrel is 4-3/4” in length. It has a blued finish. The two line patent appears on the left side of the frame. A circled rampant Colt logo is faint but is also on the left side of the frame.
The included letter from the Colt historian indicates that this revolver left the Colt factory on September 20, 1892. It was shipped to Simmons Hardware Co. in Saint Louis, MO as part of a 35 gun shipment.
The grips are a stag-type and are in Excellent condition. We assume that these are replacement grips as most models in this time period had transitioned to a two piece rubber. Having said that, the current grips look fantastic.
Note: This model of the Colt SAA is not certified for use with smokeless powder.
There is some finish loss and some scuffing on the metal finish and we’ve made every attempt to provide pictures that accurately show the condition of the firearm. Areas of some finish loss include the left side of the muzzle, the ejector shroud and the trigger guard. There is a wear ring on the cylinder. We have no knowledge as to the originality of the finish and make no guarantees as to that. The lockup of the cylinder is tight and the action is smooth, as you would expect from a Colt SAA.
Overall, this is a very attractive, rarely seen 1st Generation SAA. If you’re a collector of these beautiful revolvers, we think that you’d be very happy with this model in your collection.
