This consignment sale is a Colt Official Police model (Pre-War) that is chambered for .38 caliber ammunition. Its serial number of 621594 would indicate that it rolled out of the Colt factory in 1937.
The barrel is 4 inches long and has fixed sights. The cylinder holds 6 rounds. Action is either Double Action on Single Action.
The top of the barrel is marked "Colt's PT F A MFG CO HARTFORD, CT USA. The second line on top of the barrel is "PAT'D AUG 5, 1884, JULY 4, 1905, OCT 5, 1926".
The left side of the barrel is marked "COLT OFFICIAL POLICE .38". A Colt logo is also on the left side of the frame, just forward of and above the grips. Also on the left side of the frame and just forward of the cylinder is the marking " / 380". This is followed by what appear to be crossed flags. Based on our research, this may indicate that the chamber has been modified to accept .38-200 for Britich use. Most of the revolvers that went to the British were the 5 inch barrel model and had a lanyard loop. However, there were certainly exceptions to that.
The right side of the barrel is marked ".38 1.15 4 Tons".
The grips are checkered walnut with the Colt medallion. The grips are in Excellent condition and the checkering is sharp. We did remove a grip panel to view the reverse side and the panel does have the 3 stud holes on the reverse side, which would seem to indicate that they are of the correct time period.
The bore is clean, the barrel is bright and the rifling appears to be strong. The trigger has sharp checkering as well. A lot of the blued finish has been lost to age but we see no pitting or rust. The metal is in Good condition.
Overall, this is a very nice example of a pre-war Official Police and would be a great addition to your collection of vintage firearms.
Purchase is for the firearm as shown. No accessories or cases are included.
This is a consignment sale and, like all of our consignments, we have not test fired this revolver. We have performed our function checks and find no issues that are not addressed above. As with all pre-owned firearm purchases, please review the photos carefully so that you are fully comfortable with the condition of the firearm.
