This vintage Colt Lightweight Commander came into the shop as a consignment sale. It’s chambered in 45 ACP, has a 4.25 inch barrel and a magazine capacity of 8+1.
The serial number on the frame is CLW013541. This does not come up in the Colt online database but, for some reason, is not uncommon on the older Colt Commanders. Based on our research and seeing similar serial numbers, this is likely an early 70s model Lightweight Commander. The frame does not have a rollmark other than the serial number. Again, not an uncommon occurrence for this model and timeframe.
The pistol has wood grips with the rampant Colt medallion embedded in the grip. Note that these grips are not checkered but have just the wood grain. The grips are in Excellent condition.
The frame does have multiple areas of various small scratches. Please see the photos regarding this. We find no rust or pitting, just the issue that we mentioned.
The bore is clean and the barrel is bright. The rifling appears to be good.
Overall, we’d rate this pistol as Good condition and have priced it accordingly. If you like the vintage 1911s and especially the early Lightweight Commanders, please check this one out and see if it’s what you’re after.
Purchase is for the pistol as shown and (1) 8 round magazine. No other accessories are included in the sale.
This is a consignment sale and, like all of our consignments, we have not test fired this pistol. We have performed our function checks and find no issues to report. As with all pre-owned firearm purchases, please review the photos carefully so that you are fully comfortable with the condition of the pistol.
