Browning

This beautiful takedown Browning is an Auto Rifle Grade II FN (Belgian made), also known as the SA-22.  The Belgian made models are the more rare and more desirable of the various types.  This rifle is chambered in 22 Long Rifle and was manufactured in 1969, as designated by the 69T markings.  Serial number is 16083.  Serial numbers on the barrel and receiver match.

The barrel is 19.25 inches in length and the rifle is loaded via a tube magazine in the buttstock.  Browning also machined a hole in the side of the stock to allow for partial filling of the tube magazine.  The deluxe wood has a checkered pistol grip and checkered forearm.

There were at least two styles of rear sights.  Ours is the folding adjustable rear with a fixed front sight.

The barrel has a two line stamp on the left side.  It reads:  BROWNING ARMS COMPANY ST LOUIS Mo & MONTREAL P.Q.  The second line reads:  MADE IN BELGIUM.  The right side of the barrel is marked:  BROWNING PATENTS.

The receiver is gray and is engraved on the left, top, right and underneath side of the trigger guard.  The left side features two prairie dogs.  The right side shows two squirrels.  We do not see the name or initials of the engraver on the rifle.  The trigger is gold plated.  A push button safety sits at the front of the trigger guard.

The buttstock does have some scuffs and signs of use but we would still grade it as Very Good.  Please review the pictures to make your own assessment.  The forearm has signs of light use but also rates as Very Good.  The metal on the barrel is Excellent and the finish is almost entirely intact.  The receiver and trigger guard do have some finish loss but the engraving detail is clear and strong.  The bore is good and the barrel is bright.
