Browning

We've had some really nice firearms come into the shop on consignment lately and this vintage BL-22 fits right into that category.  Our model sports serial number 72B80637, which Browning reports as being manufactured in 1972.

The rifle will accept 22 Short, 22 Long or 22 Long Rifle and feeds from a tube magazine that snaps securely into place once loaded.  The barrel is 20 inches in length.  The rear sight is a folding, adjustable style and the front sight is fixed.  The hammer has a 1/2 cock position for safety.

One of our favorite features on the BL-22 is the very short throw of the lever action.  Measured at just 33 degrees, you can really work this action quickly.  If you're using this rifle to teach a young shooter (and what a great model for that), that short throw of the action lets them operate the rifle easily.  It's a really nice design and just a ton of fun.  The rifle comes in at just about 5 pounds in total weight.  Again, a nice weight for a young shooter or just fun for an adult.

The action on this one cycles smoothly and the trigger is light and pleasant.  The barrel is very bright, the rifling is clear and sharp and the bore is very clean.

The wood retains its beautiful gloss finish and shows just light signs of use with no major issues to detract from the look.  We'd rate the wood as at least Very Good.  The black Browning buttpad is in Excellent condition.  The blued metal finish is nearly perfect and rates as Excellent also.

Overall, this is an Excellent condition vintage BL-22 that's been lightly used and not abused.  Made in a time period where quality really counted, we don't think you'd be disappointed in this purchase.  It looks beautiful in the gun case but it's too much fun to not take it out and shoot!
